A Fun Game the Plunges the Player into a Past Era

I really enjoyed this game. I was not to sure what to expect when we grabbed this title, but having played through it, I found it quite enjoyable. The designers did a great job in setting up the surrounding environment to be like what one would see in old black and white detective flicks. And the voice overs were a perfect finishing touch, I think. Even the sketches used as play advanced adds to the charm of the game. Puzzles are fun, and the whole play systems is relatively easy to use. If you are looking for a fun title to immerse yourself into a detective story set in the 1930s, give Nick Chase a try!

Absolutely my cup of tea!

The moment I saw this, I knew it was something I'd enjoy. I love the theme and how the hints were done in this game. I love how the puzzles made sense with what I needed to do in the story. Can't wait to play the sequel - it's on my list!

Best Game To Date

While I have played quite a few "adventure" games, including the newer Nick Chase game, which became my favorite, and led me to this one, which is the best I've played yet. I love the noirish feel of the game; I love the variety of the challenges; I love Nick narrating; and I love the look and sound of the game. I only wish I could play a new "chapter" of it every day.

Great Noir style game

I have always enjoyed noir style movies and games and this one did not disappoint. From the choice of music to the voice overs it was great, especially Nick's voice. The graphics were drawn comic book style that became the scenes of the story and the puzzles had some interesting twists. You are an ex-police officer that is now a private eye and in need of a client. The phone rings and you are hired to find a manuscript. It is very well done for this style. The animations were spot on. I especially liked the elevator. A nice change from the norm.

I Love hidden object games that make it fun to find the items. I do not like the games that just have lists. I find them very boring.

I love this game.... It has a fantastic story line and being narrated by Nick just makes it that much better. The music is perfect for this story. The puzzles are really fun also. I have played it three times just because it is fun to relax to. I am looking for part two now. I hope they were smart and kept everything the same. :D

I LOVED THIS GAME!!!

I played this game on my iPad and am delighted I did. While there are HOGs, I'm much more excited about the other extremely fun and creative puzzles. Everything fits together nicely. The HOGs and puzzles aren't just there to occupy time, they are an integral part of the story. The ambience is perfect: if it were a movie it would be in Black and White. The voice over actor who plays Nick Chase is PERFECT! He's hardboiled and straight to the point. Nick Chase was very early on in my adventure game history and it helped get me hooked. It is near and dear. I look forward to more and I hope that this will come out in Mac format. I'll buy it a second time so I can see it on the big screen. BTW, I played the sequel first and the order doesn't matter.

interactive graphic novel!

I wish BFG would do more games like this. It's well made and fun... and it just wants me to see more graphic novels turned into interactive games like this.

It was a fun game.

I love the storyline and comic book art that goes along with it. The puzzles weren't too challenging. I like the way the hints are shown. It was a fun game, but not the best I've ever played

One-word: Synergy

That's what came to me as I played this game: everything seems perfectly integrated into a cartoonish, film-noir experience. The games looks like an old-fashion detective cartoon, sounds like it, and ultimately feels like it. Gameplay-wise, while there certainly are plenty of objects to find, the game really is a mix of HO, misc puzzles, and even adventure, as you're being railroaded through the plot. My biggest complaint? The game is fairly short, by modern standards. I seem to recall finishing it in 3 hours.

Top notch game all around.

This is a classic film noir private eye story, done with graphic novel-style illustrations. The music helps set the scene but doesn't dominate. There are hidden object scenes and puzzles, but it has a lot of adventure elements, too, and a cohesive story. Most of the puzzles are not terribly difficult, but at least one took me many tries to get trhough (still was fun, though!). The story had a tidy and satisfying ending. I just finished playing the second in the series, Deadly Diamond, and it was every bit as good as this one, and a stand-alone story, so you don't have to play them in order. Very fun game and I highly recommend it!
