This needs more thinking than the usual H0G, and the puzzles were very different. I would class it an Adventure Lite, with HO scenes finding objects from silouettes. They put themselves together to form tools needed soon after. The hint button wasn't much help, mainly directional, but refilled quickly. The graphics are excellent, and I didn't mute the music for once. I loved the sense of humour in the game. Most of us know the Pied Piper story, so should not be distressed by kidnapped children. There is nothing gory or spooky to upset people. A refreshing change from recent Supernatural themed games.
I'm so glad! big fish games released this game. I love the environtment. But, this is too easy for me. but, that's okay. I love easy games, too.
"Yes!" I agree this is a superb game. I love the artistry, graphics, music, interactive play, and fable. I am very impressed "Cheers" and "5 stars" for the developers of this game. Thanks Big Fish.
I like most any game that is not dark and sinister. I get tired of the witches and dark scenes. Its fun to play something else every now and then.
I truly enjoy playing this game 'til end! It's fun for me. That's why I give five stars. Thanks dev and good job!
The graphics in this game look like something out of a Tim Burton movie. There are asymmetric walls at angles and anthropomorphized furnaces and cash registers and fun, bristly characters. The transitions between locations are animated, a bit like a zooming out/in effect which is really fun. This is not a traditional HOG in that you don't have a list of words; instead you get a list of silhouette images that are parts of an object that will be assembled when you find them all. Almost all of these objects are creatively designed. A simple pair of tongs is shaped a dragon's head, etc. The game is divided into four sections with about 5-10 locations in each one so there is minimal backtracking. You go through the town, a circus and finally the Pied Piper's castle. Puzzles were fun and a decent challenge, but I thought what stood out in the gameplay was that you had to use many of the inventory items in more creative ways than most HOGs (not just putting keys in locks, although there's a bit of that). The only thing I didn't like was that the "active" cursor didn't look different enough from the regular cursor, so I ended up missing some items or active locations. And not all active locations would cause the cursor to change when moused over. Small complaint though, overall a very creative game that I loved. :)
This is a difficult game to rate. Where it fails, it fails pretty badly. But the bottom line is that I had a blast playing it. It's whimsical and fun - more than once, I found myself grinning at the characters and at the tasks. I loved the quirky and very lovely artwork. Some things were wholly new - without giving anything away, the magician's hat is pure genius. Therefore, four stars, even though the game has issues. I'd buy a sequel or similar game in a heartbeat. Movement needs help. I accidentally went to the wrong place or backed out of a room by mistake more times than I can count, despite big yellow arrows meant to guide the player. A few of the tasks really needed to be just a little more intuitive.
I liked the cartoonesque look of this game, while the items to be found were still recognizable enough. The game itself was entertaining and challenging enough, yet the end was a bit sudden for me. I did feel a bit like the money had run out or something?? The villain gave up quite easily. The game until that moment is fine though. Enjoyed it.
After finding this game and playing it i fell in LOVE with adventure puzzle games. This game is appeasing to the eye and very easy to navigate;) i have played other games like this since and sometimes the puzzles are a bit hard to grasp. Definitely a game that should be played!!!
This game had things I don't like and yet I enjoyed it anyway. It has great graphics, Pied Piper storyline, fair music and some unusual play. The HOs are all silhouette which I really don't like. The puzzles were very easy. The game play itself was a bit unusual as was references in another review-the magician's hat. The game is pretty straight forward not terribly difficult and was very short. Having said all that I still enjoyed the game. If you want a simple filler game to pass a few hours, this is it. However, wait for the DD, not really worth full price.
