An old style adventure game but worth a look

I stumbled across this game while reviewing the forums for another one and Samorost was mentioned. Although that game is the prequel to this one (BF does not offer the original...why not, BF?), I tried it out and, surprisingly, I liked it well enough to consider maybe purchasing at a later date on a sale. This game is different from others in that there's no hint sytem, journal, or map available to aid you and it's very much an old style adventure game where you just click around to see what moves on the screen. The demo is only 15 minutes long so it's a short game overall, but you have to complete a logical sequence of moves in order to progress in the story. There are cute animations, sounds, and music throughout and it's done in a funny cartoon style, so I think there may be a lot to like here and it doesn't seem overly complicated. It's in the same vein like The Tiny Bang Story in that you have to figure out yourself how to navigate and what the tasks are, but Samorost seems to be much easier than TTBS. It's hard to describe the looks of this game unless you try it out for yourself, so please do. It's only 15 minutes of your time but you should be able to make an educated guess as to whether or not you'll like it enough to buy.

Fun to Play / Superb Graphics

Samorost 2 is another winner from Amanita Design which is a leader in "Art Adventure" puzzle games. There are no HOS or sparkles to tell you what to do next, you simply click on whatever appeals to you &, when done in the correct sequence, the character moves on. Graphics are sweet! You fly a spaceship, go underground, sneak past bad creatures all in a unique and imaginative environment. If you're up for something completely different, give Samorost a try!

Nice graphics, different look, but annoying.

Annoying to have to guess where to click with no real sense to it, plus you have to walk back and forth, back and forth to do everything 3 times! Ugh! It is also very short which is maybe a good thing for how annoying it is....except that you paid money for it. Thank God it was an excellent sale. Oh, and pay attention to the code at the bottom when you finish a level. You have to enter it at the bottom left to go to where you left off or it starts all - over - again.

The most beautiful looking and sounding game I've played to date

This is an incredibly beautiful game, which makes you feel like you are watching a lovely children's tv animation, that you can at times interact with - which is a good thing, and also a bad thing. To start with I was I enthralled by the sequences of movement following an action, whether it was playing with the plant life in a scene, or moving to a new location, or pouring liquid into something else. But after a while you feel like you are watching, rather than playing the game, which gets a bit wearing when you want to be 'doing' or 'puzzling', not watch your character walk through tunnels or up a hill (again)... So in that respect the play-ability levels for me are not optimum. Game time it took about 2.5 hours to complete. Mainly because of one scene, where I had to be stood somewhere specifically for an action icon to appear on an item. I was already out doors, and both the correct and incorrect areas were not near X object. All I am saying is, don't be on the taxi ... (Not giving anything away!) For this amazing concept, environment, sounds, artwork, mood, music... Wow. There are not enough stars on the BF scales for me to laud this game enough. It is truly, truly incredible. I most definitely will be looking to play more Amanita Design games. And interested to see whether the play-ability and emotional investment in the storyline, is increased in Samorost 3 when it is released. If you have a free credit, I would recommend it's use here, even for such a short game. It's worthwhile to experience and wonder at this game and where it will go in future.

Unique and Artistic

This game is a little pearl. If you like different and would like to support the variety of games that is made ? you should try this one out. It runs smoothly and the 15 min demo time is IMO enough to see if it?s worth (for you) to explore further. Also if you are familiar with this sort of troubleshooting (?) you have time to solve the first challenge. I demoed it, bought it, leaned back and enjoyed the - animation - humour - music - challenges There is no help! But Genkicoll has posted a ?get started spoiler? in the Reviews Thread in the Game Forum and there?s also a walkthrough to be found on the internet if you really, really get stocked ? Only one tip: If you think, you?ve tried everything; you may have overlooked a (small?) detail.
