Not for the faint hearted!

I mentioned in one of my old reviews that I had guilty pleasures, some of which include the occasional cigarette , eating chocolaits and my collection of horror books and films. That being said, this game is right up my alley. My immediate reaction to the opening scene was " Characters are like cut out paper dolls, YUK!" However as I continued, I became enthralled with the sounds and the visual effects of the game. First there is the ominous musical score, the whispers and sound of thunder, moans and cries and I was hooked! I really do applaud the devlopers for using good actors to do Voice-overs. Very ery well done and you have the main character that speaks to you at every turn and tells you what to do. That takes alot of work and in my opinion, somewhat raises the bar in Game Mechanics. I can't really say the same for Graphics, although sharp, they look old-school and one dimensional as are the annimations. However I really loved the art work, dark, intense and drawn beautifully. All of these elements submerges you into a demonic world where you have to save a child from possesion. I am sure the subject matter will be a issue for many as Demonic Possesion isn't everyone's cup of tea. As I said, being of fan of Lovecraft, Poe and King, I enjoy the macabre. Game mechanics offer two game modes but no custom cursor which is surprising. Game play includes a journal, a SG on the left upper corner and a rather clever hint system that is apparently your Hand that offers you clues as to where to go or what to do. The HOG scenes are junk piled and the lighting is not great, making some obects impossible to find. Game play involves the usual puzzles and finding key objects and using them. There are mini-games which so far were easy and familiar. I really do believe that based on the subject manner as well as the lack of some game features and the level of challenge, this game should have been brought to us as a SE. However as I really did enjoy the demo trial and am curious to see just how the game progresses,

This one is definitely a "Marmite" game

For those of you fishies from places other than the UK, Marmite is a strange brown spread you put on toast and you either love it or hate it, it has no middle ground whatsoever!! This game is pure Marmite! I absolutely love it (as I do Marmite) but I can see it being horrid for some people. I can't even start to describe why it is so fab... I got hooked about 5 mins into the demo, finding the wierd and bizarre feel to the game enjoyable. This is definitely out of a different stable than the games we have been offered recently. Game play is either casual or hardcore, you can change mid play if necessary. I played on casual and it was hard enough for me. The HOS are hard on the eye at times but not so much as to frustrate. Puzzles so far have not been too hard but I have a feeling they are going to get harder as the game progresses. Now all I need to decide is whether I buy it now or wait till the 1st... Cracking game, respect to the devs!

Confused why this game is getting such mixed reviews

I loved this game. I noticed that one reviewer said there was too many cut scenes but I just love them I suppose one man's meat etc. What was so fascinating and only reviewing from the demo was just how different this game was. I was very surprised that reviewers thought it same old. For me Wonderful beginning great cut scene. I love hearing a voice instead of reading you "need a key for this lock" stuff thought it a huge advance on other games. Loved the unusual hint button a hand which can also have powers added to it to get you out of sticky situations was hugely novel. Loved the HOS like the music when you found something instead of an annoying tingle in so many games. Extra content if you bought it was inserted into the game which I thought was really good marketing.Loved all cut scenes really done well. Good crisp graphics. Liked the fact you had objectives which were ticked off in your diary when completed. Hint button worked so well have so far not needed SG. Have bought game. Recommend all play the demo and give it a go never mind the bad reviews. No glitches.

Dark, mysterious and captivating game

Just finish the demo. I'm waiting May the 1st to buy the Collector Edition (for the stamps only) In a few words : HOS : more interesting than usual, a bit more tricky as well (and I'm playing on casual mode). No map but added to the classic hint button, the heroin's arm gives you indication about the next step. Some of the mini-games and graphics make me think at another game I loved : REDRUM.

Don't Judge a book by its cover.

When I saw this game I was not even going to bother to play the demo, but I am glad I did. Lots of intro and cut scenes, but playing the game itself was great. Goggi as usual surpassed themselves with graphic's, story line and puzzles. The HO scenes, for some reason I found a bit hard, however the hints I used were helpful. My heart sank when the time was up but its a definite buy for me. A very good game and worth the CE.

Awesome game!!!

I've been a member for a few years now and ive never commented on a game till now i thought this game was outstanding i love the cut scenes, storyline everything about the game. Its a thriller!! Thank you Bigfish

Different, Macabre, and Fun

Based on the demo, but I'm buying this when I get paid. This game didn't grab me right away. Took a few minutes for me to get hooked. It's a combination of dark fairytale, Lovecraft and Poe-- a combo which can either work well or not at all. In this case, it works well. The heroine is a down-to-earth woman who doesn't get rattled easily. The other characters are a bit cartoony. If you don't like the heroine's spoken thoughts, you can go to Options and turn voices off. However, that can cause problems when other characters speak. You can also skip the cut scenes. The Strategy Guide is very helpful, and there are a few places you really need it. The hints are not as helpful. There is also a journal with a task list, which is helpful as well. The puzzles and HOS are easy to moderately challenging. There are several different kinds of puzzles in this game, and that diversity makes it more fun. The graphics and audio are good, and the music fits the storyline.

OH BOY!

Bought this game only after trying it out for about half hour. Great game to play on a rainy night with lots of lightning and thunder going on. The story line is really different and is accompanied by really scary graphics. The HO scenes and cut scenes are very well done as well. I absolutely recommend this game!

Love this game!

Creepy, interesting, challenging. Loved the atmosphere created by the game designers, hogs were cleverly interspersed in the story line, music well done. This game raises the bar on Big Fish Adventure/HOG games, more like this, please!

Wow-now this is more like it...

To be fair, this review is coming from a person that enjoys the macabre. For those that don't, or have a personal objection to it, I do not recommend this game. For those that do-this is a MUST have for your collection; whether the CE or SE. I am impressed by almost everything. Graphics are above par, sound quality and background acoustics are excellent and the voice-overs are VERY well done. What I have enjoyed the most is the gaining of new 'powers' that you receive along the way. For console gamers out there that love the Elder Scrolls, this is a very enjoyable feature and a very creative twist on what could have turned out to be a cookie-cutter game. This game is anything but 'been there, done that.' Yes, the theme has been done in many variations, but the way in which the developers created the game; different game mechanics, a new journal style (allows you to search by topic which is quicker than flipping through pages), an interesting and engaging storyline, a main character that talks as she discovers things, creepy atmosphere and background sounds, incredible cut-scenes and downright scary moments, really immerse the player into the world they created, so I have felt so far none of the 'not this again' feeling. The reason I said 'I am impressed with almost everything' is because while I do enjoy the main character talking and describing what she sees as you move along (very nice touch) she can get repetitive. It's not bad enough that it detracts from the game, at least for me, but it can get a little annoying when it does happen. Other than that, this is the first supposed 'scary' game where I have actually felt fear, so I consider that to be a huge accomplishment for the game developers and one of the reasons I gave this game 5 starts. Rarely do I do that, but this game delivers. I have jumped out of my chair more than once, and feel quite intense while playing it. Love it or hate it, but one thing is for sure-in this game you can tell that the developers actually cared ab
